Open Competition Rules
Rules for Annual Open Competition
The competition is open to anyone.
The topic is “Open.”
Location and date: The competition will take place Tuesday, October 12th, 2010 at 7 PM in the Community Room at the
Classic Residence, a Vi Community (formerly known as the Classic Residence by Hyatt)

All photographs must be original work and have been taken by the person whose name appears on the back of the print or slide, or in the title of the digital photograph.
Prints must be at least 5×7 inches and must be mounted on something sturdy enough to stand alone in a light box. They may not be framed.
The name of the maker, the title, and an arrow pointing to the top of the photograph must be on the back of prints. Nothing may be written on the front of prints.
Any print with any color, even if the majority of the image is black and white, may only be entered into the Color Prints category.
Slides
Slides must be mounted in 2×2 inch cardboard, glass, metal, or plastic mounts not thicker than 3/32 inch. They must have a big dot in the lower left hand corner of the slide as it is held by hand and seen correctly by the holder. All slides must have the maker’s name and photograph’s title on the reverse side.
Digital images
Digital images should be saved in jpg (high) format, sized to be no more than 1024 pixels wide and no more than 768 pixels high with a color space of sRGB.
Each digital image’s file must be named with the word ‘open’, photographer’s name and the title of the image, separated by a tilde(~) and with no other punctuation except the period before jpg. Example: Advanced~Tom Jones~Lotus Blossom.jpg
General Issues
Four entries are allowed per category.
Any image that has won in a previous annual open competition may NOT be entered again.
There is an entry fee of $2 per image which will be collected prior to the competition. A list of the digital photos that were entered before the deadline will be available. Entries will be removed from the competition if the fees have not been received by 7 PM on October 13th. To mail checks for entry fees, send an email to the president. for the current mailing address.
Digital entries must be sent to NIHCameraClub@gmail.com by midnight on Oct 7, 2010.
Print or slide entries can be submitted from 5:30 PM to 6:45 PM the night of the contest at the meeting venue.
Prints or slides not picked up at the end of the competition will be available for pickup only at the November meeting unless other specific arrangements are made. Prints or slides not be picked at the November meeting will become the property of the NIHCC.
Awards
Awards will be given to 25% of the entries: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and sufficient honorable mentions to total 25%.
Prizes for each category:
1st place – $30
2nd place _ $20
3rd place – $10
Honorable Mentions – Ribbons.
Judging will be done by 3 experienced judges who will score each image independently, using a 1 to 4 scale with 4 being the best. The three scores will be added to determine the score for that image. Several rounds of judging may be necessary in order to obtain the correct number of winners.
All winners will be announced in the November issue of Cameraderie, the newsletter of the NIH Camera Club and on this website.
